Google Earth as takeover blueprint?

Robert Cringely has an interesting and insightful take on Google's acquisition of dark fiber and their supposed intentions to control the internet. While his predictions are in the ballpark, I think he's a bit off when it comes to his assertion that the ISPs will have to lean on Google's new infrastructure to maintain profitability. I find it more likely that Google plans further service integration with YouTube, building data centers, and networks to deliver more content at higher speeds, and to be able to store all that content redundantly in multiple data centers around the country.

Then again Google may well also lease bandwidth to the ISPs.
